Speech Club

"For the genuine orator must have investigated and heard and read and discussed and handled and debated the whole of the contents of the life of mankind, inasmuch as that is the field of the orator's activity, the subject matter of his study. For eloquence is one of the supreme virtues."

- Cicero

The art of speaking well is a crucial aspect of what it means to be a fully-formed human. He who cannot communicate clearly will not be understood, and that has devastating consequences - as we see daily - at home and in the workforce, particularly when convoluted messages are amplified across social media or the news. Yet eloquence, rightly ordered, is a powerful tool for God's glory.

This Summer (May 2026 – August 2026)

We will host a one-day Speech Camp (approximately 3 hours—date TBD) for new and returning students to have fun and build their speaking confidence without any pressure. This is an optional activity, not a requirement for the fall class.

Wednesday Classes

Classes meet on Wednesdays starting in the fall. We'll begin with Apologetics, where we  dig deeply into Scripture, and learn to answer with biblical clarity and truth. We'll then move into Speech, where students practice:

  • Constructing and delivering original speeches

  • Performing interpretative speeches

  • Giving strong impromptu speeches

  • Playing fun games that build confidence, quick thinking, and oratory skills - often filled with laughter

Tournaments
We host one to two speech tournaments each year (Lord willing, one in the fall and one in the spring). As hosts, our families plan, organize, and run the events. All students are expected to compete, and all parents are asked to volunteer. These tournaments are a highlight of the year and one of the fastest ways for students to grow in skill and confidence.
Stoa Membership
To be eligible for competitions, families need a Stoa membership. The early registration fee is $100 per family, after September 30 the fee increases to $125.
